Attitude Check! Winners Attitude: Student Success & Student Leadership Series 2

Jan 29, 2020

I recently did a survey on Facebook. I asked my Facebook friends: What is the hardest thing about working with kids these days? I knew that many of my friends are student leadership advisors, sponsors, parents, educators, teachers, aunts, uncles, coaches.

 The #1 response was “ATTITUDE”

In high school i was captain of a highly successful basketball team. We went 3 rounds into the playoffs each year and were usually ranked top 3 in the area out of over 100 schools. Every-time we left on the road. Right as we exited the fence of the campus the entire bus would go quite and I would stand up and yell...

ATTITUDE CHECK! And the rest of the team would yell TEAM COMES FIRST. ATTITUDE CHECK! TEAM COMES FIRST! ATTITUDE CHECK! TEAM COMES FIRST! We would do that 3 times.

Jackie Robinson, “A life is not important except the impact it has on other lives”

Winning Attitude: Team comes before me. Family comes before me. Others come before me.

  • Who is counting on you?
  • Who needs you to be a Champion?

Write down 5-10 people that are counting on you? You need to write their actual name, you can put Mom next to name, but put actual names.

My brother was an elite athlete. He was an All-American and won a championship while in school. I am jealous of the huge ring. His senior year he was a part of a pro day. A ton of NFL Scouts came to my brothers university to watch him work out and do drills. Other players participated in hopes of being like by NFL Scouts and being offered a contract. It was a very special day. With all players and scouts watching my brother during his bench press (225 lbs for 40 repetitions) I stood on a bench to film over all the players and scouts. While filming my brothers agent asked if I was the older brother. He then told me how my brother told him that I had set a great example for him.

I believed my brother was counting on me. I believed my family was counting on me. When I wanted to quite, I would think my brother is counting on me. TEAM COMES FIRST When I was failed and kept going. My brother is counting on me. TEAM COMES FIRST. When I was nervous about my dreams. My brother is counting on me. TEAM COMES FIRST.

  • When you are putting others first you create bigger meaning for your actions and goals.
  • When your goals have an effect on others they are better goals.
